WINNER: RealMe, New Zealand Department of Internal Affairs
RealMe is a secure, consent based platform to access and share personal information online. It creates trust and confidence between users and organisations delivering integrated digital services. It is a secure way for people to access services and prove their identity and other information about themselves digitally.
It does two key jobs. It gives users a single login to multiple services and also a verified RealMe account works as an online ID. With a verified account customers are able to officially prove who they are during important online transactions, so they don’t need to front up in person or provide documents. RealMe is run in partnership by the New Zealand Department of Internal Affairs and New Zealand Post.
Highly Commended: Cybersmart Program – Australian Communications and Media Authority
Early in 2014, the Australian Communications and Media Authority’s (ACMA) Cybersmart program launched Australia’s first comprehensive package of cybersafety resources for Indigenous communities. Tackling cyberbullying, sexting and digital footprint management, Be Deadly Online responds to Indigenous community leaders’ concerns about the impact of social media on family and community relationships and on young people themselves by offering positive, practical advice on playing smart online.
The program is made up of a series of short animations, posters and a behind-the scenes ‘making of’ video, all hosted on a specially-created portal within the Cybersmart website. It was created with major contributions from a number of Indigenous communities across Australia, including Yarrabah in Tropical North Queensland, regional Victoria and the Mid West Gasgoyne region in Western Australia.
Cyberbullying, sexting and digital footprint issues don’t just affect one person; they can have a significant effect on whole communities. Be Deadly Online explores the impact of these behaviours through characters and a storyline that young people can relate to, in a medium that will reach them.

WINNER: Get Up To Speed Program - The Training Collective
The Get Up To Speed program is a 12 week program which is delivered completely online, allowing busy business professionals to study in a flexible manner around their work, family and life commitments. Over 650 people from around Australia and New Zealand have participated in this program and gained new knowledge on essential digital skills required for the digital age including social media, e-marketing, SEO, website design and development, pay per click, cloud computing, e-commerce and more. The program has made a real difference to the lives of many people with some program participants starting businesses, others changing careers, and some growing their online presence and businesses significantly. The program was originally offered with funding from Skills Queensland in collaboration with Broadband Today (an affiliate of 125 councils across Australia) and the Australasian Leadership Academy, but has been offered independently by The Training Collective since mid 2013.
Highly Commended: The Deaf Society of NSW
The Deaf Society of NSW was established in 1913 and is a company limited by guarantee. We are a not-for-profit, bi-lingual, bi-cultural, community-centred organisation which exists to achieve equity for deaf people. Our services include advocacy and community development, employment services, Auslan interpreting and translation, education and training, independent living skills and community services.
Our bi-lingual website was recently re-designed, and was built to be accessible to our stakeholders, many of whom are members of the Australian Deaf Community.The website therefore contains extensive information in Auslan, Australian Sign Language, so that deaf people can access information comfortably in their preferred language.
The website contains extensive information in Auslan not only about our services, but about topics of general interest from asbestos to safe driving, from money management to legal processes.
The website also links to an online community history resource, "Deaf in New South Wales", which was a product of our centenary in 2013.
WINNER: Policy Online (APO)
Policy Online (APO) is an open access digital library of full text public policy related research and resources for Australian and New Zealand researchers and policy makers. The database and alert service provides easy access to a wide range of hard to find materials including research reports, working papers, discussion papers, commentary, data and other grey literature resources essential for those working in academic, government, NGOs and business. Established in 2002 as a project of the Swinburne Institute at Swinburne University of Technology, Policy Online now contains over 20,000 research records from more than 2000 organisations and receives over half a million visits each year. Policy Online is supported by a number of university partners and has also been awarded 6 Australian Research Council grants with the most recent being in 2013 to develop linked data capabilities. This initiative will result in greater interoperability between Policy Online's unique collection of grey literature and other collections in Australia and around the world including RMIT Publishing's database of journal articles, the National Library of Australia and OCLC's World Catalogue.
Highly Commended: Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustII)
Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustLII) is Australia's most popular online free-access resource for Australian legal information, serving the needs of a multitude of users with over 600,000 hits daily. AustLII is a joint facility of the UTS and UNSW Faculties of Law. AustLII comprises the AustLII Research Centre and the AustLII Foundation Limited, a not‐for-profit company limited by guarantee operating as a charitable on-line public library.
AustLII publishes public legal information -- that is, primary legal materials (legislation, treaties and decisions of courts and tribunals); and secondary legal materials created by public bodies for purposes of public access (law reform and royal commission reports for example) and a substantial collection of law journals.
This initiative had the objective of digitising and making available for free online access the complete key resources of Australasia’s legal history. Most of this material had never been digitised and was only accessible through major public libraries or archives. Stage 1 of the project has resulted in the Colonial Legal History Library (1788‐1900) and the Federation Law Library (1901‐1950). Together, these make up the Australasian Legal History Libraries, which provide near‐comprehensive annual Acts from the commencement of each Australian jurisdiction (Commonwealth, States, and Territories) and New Zealand.

Cultural Infusion is a social enterprise that works in education, youth, communities and the arts to build cultural harmony and well-being for a more cohesive and richer society. We are dedicated to promoting equality, social justice and encouraging a broader understanding of culture across our community for the benefit of all.
Cultural Infusion has been championing intercultural understanding through its work in education, youth, communities and the arts for more than ten years. Our work and online resources have been recognised with numerous awards, including the United Nations Intercultural Innovation Award and the Cultural Revolution Award from the Minister for Culture and Information of the Punjab Government of Pakistan. We developed the winning slogan – “Divided We Fall, United We Stand, Diversified We Grow” – which was presented at the UN World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku, Azerbaijan to 50 Directors of Ministries of Culture from across the world.
Highly Commended: Deaf Services Queensland
Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) is a communication service that allows individuals in the community, regardless of hearing loss or communication method, to communicate via an Auslan (Australian Sign Language) interpreter over the Internet. Hearing, deaf and hearing impaired people (who use Auslan) are all able to access VRI.
Through using state of the art video conferencing equipment, Deaf Services Queensland aimed to connect deaf community members with interpreters and a broad range of service providers in order to help meet individual and greater community needs.
Through installing this equipment Deaf Services Queensland has been able to meet current unmet need in a way previously unavailable. All that deaf customers need is a Broadband Internet connection, a computer or laptop and a webcam or iPad2 and they can be connected to an Auslan interpreter. Interpreting access in Queensland has never been this simple.
The VRI service has fulfilled a very real deficiency in interpreting provision around the state. Through the funding provided, Deaf Services Queensland is now able to meet the interpreting requirements of more community members, particularly those living in regional areas where interpreting access is difficult to acquire.
WINNER: ARTS:LIVE – The Song Room
ARTS:LIVE is The Song Room’s interactive learning platform designed to deliver engaging arts-based education resources to all schools in Australia. The aim of ARTS:LIVE is to assist teachers to confidently incorporate arts into their curriculum and achieve sustainable music and arts learning outcomes in school communities. ARTS:LIVE promotes active collaboration between teachers and students across all five art forms of the Australian Arts Curriculum: Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music and Visual Arts, and enables access to in-depth, curriculum-aligned, classroom-ready interactive learning from anywhere in Australia. The Song Room has partnered with many arts organisations, peak bodies and arts content experts such as Ausdance, Heide Museum of Modern Art, Australian Teachers of Media and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia to create over 900 interactive, digital arts resources for students from Foundation to Year 10.

PROSTMATE is a ground-breaking online portal for anyone affected by prostate cancer. It has been designed to be interactive, informative and empowering. The program offers individually tailored health information, online health consultations, tools to track progress, treatments and appointments, and self-help modules to enhance health and wellbeing. PROSTMATE provides a central point of contact for anyone affected by prostate cancer no matter where they are geographically located and connects people to much needed information, support and clinical guidance. The program has been designed by leading medical experts and researchers in prostate cancer in Australia. The development of PROSTMATE has been Led by Australian Prostate Cancer Research in collaboration with Cancer Council Australia, Royal Melbourne Hospital, PoCoG, PC4, St George Prostate Cancer Institute and Edith Cowan University. The web development team behind PROSTMATE is FidgetFriend. Support for the development of PROSTMATE came from The Portland House Foundation, Australian Prostate Cancer Research and Janssen. PROSTMATE is free to join.
Highly Commended: MyJointPain.org.au - Arthritis Australia in partnership with Bupa Health Foundation
MyJointPain is a site for people with osteoarthritis or joint pain. It delivers tailored treatment options using an algorithm that responds dynamically to a user's weekly check-in.
The website is a world first for people with this disease. Since there is no cure for ostoarthritis, active engagement is key to managing the condition. The site also measures disease risk, provides personalised treatment information, and helps a user track and manage their joint pain, as well as build a healthcare support team.
Developed by Arthritis Australia in partnership with the Bupa Health Foundation, MyJointPain is a website for the over 2 million Australians with osteoarthritis, one of the leading causes of chronic pain, disability, early retirement and lost productivity in the country.
The Leonie Dunbar Memorial Award For Community Websites
WINNER: Apollo Bay Community Website Inc
The Apollo Bay Community Website is a comprehensive, multi-faceted, multi-media site about Apollo Bay; a coastal township on the southwest coast of Victoria in the middle of the world renowned Great Ocean Road.
The website provides comprehensive details about all facets of the Apollo Bay community. It is used to get up-to-date information on events, to access community services, details of local businesses and view photos of recent events.
Similarly, but most important, the website provides a fantastic focal point for the many hundreds of thousands of visitors who travel or intend to travel the iconic Great Ocean Road.
Over the past 12 months the website has developed working links with local media; i.e. Apollo Bay News Sheet; Otway Community News Facebook page; Apollo Bay Community Radio. Additionally, non-resident property owners use it to keep in touch with 'their' community, to find out what has been happening and what are the upcoming events in their 'home away from home' life.
Highly Commended: Mirboo Country Development Incorporated
Mirboo North - community website administrated by Mirboo Country Development Incorporated (MCDI). MCDI is a not for profit community group whose purpose is to advance the interest of Mirboo North and the surrounding districts by promoting and coordinating business, tourism and community activities to the benefit and advancement of the local community. MCDI has members from the community including business, community groups and individuals. All members of the MCDI committee are volunteers.
www.mirboonorth.vic.au migrated to “Community Site in a Box” in November 2008 from an individually administrated HTML website. www.mirboonorth.vic.au is administrated by a non-paid volunteer with help from various members of the local community. The operating costs of www.mirboonorth.vic.au is covered by local sponsorship, MCDI membership and volunteer fundraising.
As of the 13th of June 2014 www.mirboonorth.vic.au has 119 pages / sections, accessed and updated by 70 individual users. Each individual user has access to their page / section as well as news and event pages
